Even as a staunch Remainer, I always thought that the EU symbol at the start of the plate was unbelievably tacky, so I’ve never had one. Mind you, I’ve not driven outide the UK since touring Europe with a good friend at the age of 22 in 1986 and combined with all the new rules, bureaucracy and costs that we’re now going to have heaped upon us since The Daily Mail readership took control and steered us off a cliff, I doubt that I ever will again; on this basis, I’ve got nothing new to feel sad about over this Thumbs Up

But I may laugh a little if I hear Leavers complain about this, especially if it’s alongsise more complaints about surcharges on foreign holidays since the value of the £ went down the toilet Big Cry

On a practical note, I think I’d just put the ‘plate through the bandsaw, as all anyone needs is an 11mm gap between the lettering and the end of the plate Thumbs Up

One thing’s clear: if you’re travelling in the EU from 29 March 2019, you may need a GB sticker if your car is currently wearing a set of EU number plates.

What a good job I’ve always used illegally spaced show plates without manufacturers names for the last 25 years . I guess I’ll just buy a GB sticker in the shop on the ferry then . Thumbs Up 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

It could be worse. Some stupid country with a tiny population & distances beyond comprehension builds 3 different railway gauges!

Everybody & everything has to swap trains at state borders. Then argue for a hundred years for who should pay for a new track to be laid & which gauge to use.

Also using timber sleepers in termite ridden ground where the termites make the sleepers disappear quicker than you can lay them.

Builds a railway line that regularly gets washed away because it is laid on river beds. So a 1000km section is rebuild hundreds of km further west.

And travels so slowly because the track is stuffed..... The old joke: Conductor, when is the train going to arrive as I am going to have a baby. Conductor said you should not have got on the train pregnant. The passenger said I was not pregnant when I got on the train! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I see a market here for appropriate sized stickers at 5p each to go over the EU's prized logo. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

The plates won't be illegal, they'll just not be valid as a replacement for the white GB sticker. I still have my old magnetic one from x years ago. I suppose I'd better dig it out. Of more concern is that if there is no deal you will need to source a green card from your insurer and an international driving licence (two if you are travelling to Spain Portugal or Eire, although I don't suppose the Irish will care too much). And ultimately (or possibly sooner) you will need to buy a visa as well.

Just been to Canada and bothered to take an international driving license “ not needed in Canada sir we speak English “. Going back tomorrow to replace the labels with multilingual versions. Didn’t think that they were that “fussed “ in Ontario 👹 Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Never been asked for an IDP when hiring a car in Canada or the states.
