yes im aware of that, specs for mine vary between 99 and 105 but as the tyres on it are not original spec I cant use those as a guide and the ACTUAL load rating isn't listed.

prime example of incorrect tyres fitted is my daughters BMW 1 series. Sizes front and back are the same, decent brand tyres, rear 2 are 1 brand and front 2 are another brand. But.... the rears are Y rated and the fronts are Z rated.

wait til you get into date codes as well as speed rating, load rating, offset...blah blah blah

some of the cheap online retailers are offering Pirelli, Bridgestone, Michelin etc at significantly lower prices than elsewhere but when you dig deeper you find that the have 5 or 6 year old manufacturers date codes, so they have been stored somewhere for that length of time. The rubber only has a certain shelf life before it degrades and cracks. Its not illegal to sell, buy, and fit them but I personally wouldn't want a 6 year old tyre fitted as 'new' to my car.

Was only thinking of that yesterday RogB , puts you in position to check and refuse fitting them if you know about date dot which I was reading on here.

Another thing, if I change my tyres from 235/60/18 to maybe something bigger / wider (if possible ) and I had to put on the spare would it cause any issues if the spare was still a 235/60/18

The width of the proposed “ bigger “ tyre will make zero difference to you using your current spare just look how wide a space saver is .

All the variations of Freelander 2 wheels be they 16” ( the best ! ) 17” 18” and 19” have decreasing tyre sidewall heights as the wheel gets bigger , so they end up with the same overall circumference. So you can have the 19” wheels and a 17” spare etc.

Hi, I have changed to 16 inch rims and continental tyres. Much better ride. I bought some spare steel rims with good tyres as well, one is a commercial A/T tyre. They usually last 60k on a transit. Might be the way to go if you do not go off road too often.

Old thread, but I’ve just replaced all four tyres. Two had done 51,000 miles and two had done 41,000 which seems pretty reasonable (although I had been hoping they would have seen the summer out, to give me the sharpest edges coming into next winter). Price works out as tyres having costing me £1.08 per 100 miles. Old ones were Quatrac 5s, which have given excellent performance, so have replaced them with the same.

Only downside is that the tyre fitter noticed that one of the alloys has a crack in it, so I will need to find a replacement wheel, sooner or later. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Had an email from mytyres offering discounts on summer tyres if anyone's in the market at the moment

There is a stonking offer on the Blackcircles website at the moment for Michelin CrossClimate tyres, £160 off for a set of 4., £40 a corner off.

My local fitter informs me that Michelin own Blackcircles, so you learn something new every day. Does anyone have any experience of these tyres?

That offer is £40 off 4 tyres, not £40 off each tyre. That's £40 off, not £160. Andy

Not according to my computer it isn't!
You might want to delete some cookies!!

The discount depends on the tire size you select. If you select 245/45 R20 then you get the £160 discount. If you select 235/55 R19 you only get £40 discount.

Ah, I see that now. I was basing it on my own DS, which runs on 20's.

An excellent deal if you have wheels that size, not so attractive for 16-19" rims after all.
