Cambelt Change - Solihull/Birmingham

My 58 plate HST is due its cambelt/waterpump change and whilst I class myself as a reasonably competent home mechanic one of the jobs I've never attempted are cambelt changes!

Having researched it and watched numerous youtube guides it looks pretty straightforward(ish) but It still fills me with fear!! So, if anyone localish to me who has done one and knows the process and fancies earning a few quid whilst chatting about cars and watching over my shoulder drop me a pm Thumbs Up

But... if you've got a recommendation for somewhere reliable to get it done feel free to reply Thumbs Up

Cheers

If you don't end up doing it yourself, then you could try

http://www.prospectsolihull.co.uk/

I had service work done there (when it was still under warranty) - they were very open and honest about the work being done and cheaper than the main dealers. I would use them again for work I couldnt do.
They have good reviews and Im told they do the MOT work for all the local prestige main dealers. Jules

Parts are now cheaper than ever and if you add the ancillary belt and crank bolt to this kit its still under £100 so that quoted price is a rip off. Other kits have water pumps included and I would fit one at this time.

At the other end of the scale

https://www.clickmechanic.com/bookings/wor...water-pump

quoted £268 but I wouldnt put much reliance on that price.

Its not a difficult job - doesnt require expensive diagnostic tools - its a basic procedure as far as an auto-mechanic is concerned - its just takes time.

Personally Id ring around all your local LR independents.

I went to Prospect for a "within warranty period " service. They were £100 cheaper than the local JLR main dealer. Not used them for anything else though. Done all my own servicing since out of warranty. Jules

Main dealer pricing table attached. Bit of an eye opener!

I'm wondering why the Evoque price is £100 higher for the cam belt change given that it's the same engine in the Freelander!

Perhaps because it says Range Rover rather than Land Rover the Premium is justified.....

To the OP, Listers Solihull are taking part in this 3+ scheme

Thanks Southam FL2... would rather set it on fire than take it to Listers... shocking dealership!

I've been watching a couple of youtube vids and the Dayco 'how to' and am pretty confident in doing it myself now so will be ordering the Dayco kit, serpentine belt and cam locking kit ready to have a go Razz

I've never used them, so forwarned is forarmed...thanks for the heads-up.

I tend to use an approved Indy in Banbury for any servicing work, mine has yet to go wrong, so can't vouch for repairs, but they seem to be very on the ball where Land Rovers are concerned. They are called E.H.Douglas. It might be worth giving them a call for a quote, as I trust them implicitly with my vehicle.
