Older handbrake.

No electronic brake, the handbrake shoes are inside the drum only used with the handbrake but a pain to get the retaining springs on when changing, adjusters seize up .its swings and roundabouts.

Steve: Are you sure? The FL manual says that automatic application of the EPB only occurs in cars with manual gearboxes. With automatic gearboxes the EPB has to be applied manually, otherwise it remains off when you switch the engine off. Are you not just leaving the autobox locked up in Park ? Maybe the Evoque is different to the FL2 but I doubt it.

This is a problem for a variety of automatic cars with EPBs as the EPB are rarely used and so tend to seize up.

Absolutely 100%. As soon as you put the car in gear from startup, the brake comes off. When you put it in park, it comes on. Even if I switch off in gear, the car will go into park and apply the handbrake. Also, if I try to open the door and reverse, the brake comes on. Don't know about FL2's though, only the Evoque. Do the later FL2's with EPB have the pop up gear selector dial or do they still have gear levers? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Did any FL2s get the pop up gear selector knob? Mine, an MY13 auto with EPB has a gear selector lever and after that it was the run out metropolis so probably not I'd say.

On the Auto, the EPB has to be applied manually and can either be released manually or by driving off. There are no situations where the car itself applies the EPB and selecting D or R does not release the parking brake.

You can activate it as an emergency stopper. This may be of interest and there are other vids on google.

Getting mine ready for MOT so I will be replacing my rear pads and discs on my Freelander 2 2014, with electronic hand brake in the next few days I went for Pagid brake discs, pads, new calliper anti rattle springs and ceramic brake grease from Euro Car Parts about £73 (with discount of 45%) should have been £133.

Clearly then the EPB functionality in the Evoque is quite different from that of the EPB in the (2014) FL2 Jules

Is there a difference in the way the EPB works on Manual or Auto FL2s and Evoques.
There is on other LRs (see below)

For a Manual, you don't want the EPB to apply automatically, you should Push the EPB button DOWN whilst switching off the ignition and removing the key.
For an Auto, just don't apply it. The above should be fine if you are leaving the disks on and just adjusting the EPB.

I read it as, the EPB comes on automatically when parking on Manual cars, but doesn't on automatics gearboxes. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

Correct for FL2 but Ewoks do something different apparently. Jules

Found this bit of info about 2013MY EPB.

Cabin space and safety are improved with the introduction of an intelligent electric parking brake which adjusts brake force according to the slope the vehicle is parked on. The system is so intelligent it even takes into account whether the brakes are hot or cold. If hot, the system ‘wakes up’ periodically to ensure clamping force is not lost as the brakes cool down. Despite being operated by a single switch, the electric parking brake may still be used as an emergency brake, automatically selecting the most stable braking method by employing skid prevention techniques. An additional safety feature ensures the brake cannot be released unless the driving seat is occupied.
