Restoring Side Steps

I've put this in Maintenance & Modifications, so if it should be posted elsewhere then feel free to move it.

One for the detailers.

Does anyone who has the original Land Rover side steps have any tips for restoring the (presumably aluminium) edges? Mine are tarnished in the corner, and like the picture attached, nothing seems to get them back to their original colour and lustre. I've tried AG Metal Polish, Tar Remover et al, all to no avail.

Any ideas?
