The front N/S tyre was flat and the airbags were completely deflated as it hasnt been started for 3 month

It was sat in an insurance yard in Bristol so i had one of our hauliers go and fetch it

I am good at all the mechanical side but it goes to a body shop for paintwork

Airbags deflated? you mean they were out and deflated? Doesn't that mean it's had a smash? The suspensiuon looks lower all round.. even lower than access height tbh..

Don't mean to ask the obvious but if it's in an insurers yard - isn't it a write off? 09MY FL2 Td4 XS, Style Pack, Privacy Glass, Martinique Blue.. oh so very blue..

Yes but a right off doesnt mean it was beyond repair

I saved £3000 on this car and it doesnt matter if it says CAT D on the HPI check aslong as I know i repaired it to the highest of standards

The suspension airbags had totally deflated and the tyres were flat making it look lower.

i think if your buying and repairing yourself, then there is a good saving to be made on CAT D

I personally wouldn't be able to do it myself, and wouldn't trust anybody else doing it, so CAT D isn't for me

For those who can, apart from a little of your own time, a decent paint job, why not Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I'm not sure whether taking a black Disco 3 and turning it into a silver Renault Megane is either cost effective or desirable? Whistle

I wouldn't touch a Cat D damaged car, 3k saving is OK but you won't get 50% of what a HPi Clear D3 would be worth, dealers will run a mile Exclamation

But I suppose it's a good way to spend less time with the wife!!! 2007 - Freelander 2 - GS TD4 Man - Sumatra Black, Ebony Cloth with Factory Dark Glass, 15" Rear DVD Screen, ALuminium Running Boards- PLUS the much Needed White Ind Lenses........

But how much time do you spend fixing it? Wouldn't it be easier to get a second job and pay just a little more for an undamaged car?

Not to mention the spare parts costs + the tools...

The way i see it is, CAT D are repairable in most cases, so why not if you have the expertize

If your buying it, to do yourself, its your time which costs nothing, its a project keeping you busy with a satisfying outcome at the end Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
