You have to laugh

Bird at work drives an Ewok and I was curious what tyres she had. "No idea, bought the cheapest ones I could from Black Circles . . . didn't want to pay a lot for them" Rolling with laughter

In the outback an owner with a new second hand car gets a flat tyre, spare tyre is flat, old & cracked, no repair kit or pump. Didn't want to spend the money!

Another person tries to pump up the spare but their cheap pump doesn't work when needed.

You see the stress on someone's face when they see the reality of their situation. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Scary how little people consider their safety (and that of their families and other road users).

I believe that it's a saying in aviation: stupids and aces die first....

Alex:

The truest of aviation sayings:

* 'there are brave pilots and there are old pilots, but very few brave old pilots'

I guess the same could possibly be said about drivers!

i would hazard a guess the cheapest of tires will have to meet some sort of legal requirement, and be fit for purpose, so what if she chose to save some money on her tyres

When I was working one of the secretaries (a lady of some years and very respectable etc) got called down to reception as "two policemen want to talk to you" another policeman was standing by her car in the car park. The long and short of it was that her number plate had been cloned and an identical car and number plate had been used in an armed robbery. They still wanted someone to vouch for her whereabouts that day and search the car in case she had a sawn off shotgun in there. Laughing 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

quote:

Aside from materials and construction, one of the reasons that premium tyres cost more is because there’s a significant amount more research and development is put into them. That means that they can generally perform better and more predictably in all sorts of conditions.

Budget tyres on the other hand, tend to work fine in dry weather, but when the road gets wetter their ability to grip the road can fall dramatically. According to consumer experts Which?, budget tyres can increase stopping distances at motorway speeds by up to 15 metres compared with more pricey competitors; roughly the length of an articulated lorry.

A similar test from What Car?, which you can view above, shows that the braking distances and grip levels of budget tyres are around 30 per cent worse than more premium tyres, meaning there’s greater potential for losing control of the car.

In other words, in good conditions budget tyres perform capably, but in countries like Britain where we typically experience more wet weather it’s worth paying a bit more for a better tyre.

Shockingly, drivers in the UK have a higher percentage of budget tyres fitted to their cars than any other country in Europe, earning Britain the controversial nickname of the European “dumping ground” for budget tyre manufacturers.

Maybe she could "try before you buy" now that most pharmacies have a private consulting room.

Where motor vehicles are concerned, NEVER compromise on Brakes, Tyres, Oil and Fuel (in that order!)

Where birds are concerned, never compromise on protection, or bank accounts! Rolling with laughter

That was my thinking.

Surly they have to be fit for purpose. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

some of these budget brands are downright dangerous though, they may meet legal requirements but they have been manufactured in the cheapest way possible and don't grip, or the compound breaks down easily etc etc.

as we used to say in the army, we were relying on kit that has been provided by the cheapest bidder, not the best quality one.
