Wasn't there a debate about bull bars few years ago? Unless you can demonstrate a need like you are a cattle farmer then you are on dodgy ground fitting one. The argument goes that the manufacturers try to make the front of a car pedestrian friendly to reduce impact injuries but if you fit a bull or light bar then you are taking responsibility for any pedestrian injuries and could end up being personally sued as the insurance company can use it as an excuse to duck out.

I presume the vehicle is only used on private land hence not illegal as such ?

Also, I believe that the legislation only applies to vehicles registered after a certain date. If this is going on a FL1, then the OP probably is quite legally entitled to fit a replacement, especially considering that one appeared to be fitted to the vehicle before the incident with the deer. |

I am not a lawyer but no doubt you could argue this in court. I know the following is about public roads but H&S seems to be getting everywhere these days.
