Central unlocking has a mind of it's own

Hi all, I have a 2010 freelander 2 and recently the central unlocking seems to have gone a bit crazy.

Initially the near side rear door failed to unlock with two presses of the fob although it would work with a 3rd or 4th press.

Then sometimes the second press would fail to unlock the rear doors but the windows all opened, (and this is with a press, NOT a press and hold).

Now sometimes it does the above, sometimes it doesn't unlock anything and sometimes it works fine.

Also, if I press the button on the central console or open the drivers door and get out then the rear door unlocks fine.

I'm thinking it can't just be a door sensor and there must be another reason. Could the key fob be at fault or is there a central sensor/receiver that could be faulty?

Any help solving this mystery would be gratefully received as diagnostics at a garage will probably cost me a new mortgage.

Cheers all.

I would also do a hard reset of the car battery it sometimes helps.

Hi thanks for those suggestions. Key fob recharge will take a 4 hour drive according to handbook so will have to wait until the weekend.

Can I ask what a 'hard reset' of the car battery involves? There is nothing in the handbook about it?

Just disconnect the battery hold the terminals together for a few seconds leave them off for 10 or 20 minutes then reconnect, windows will need resetting.
