Replacing Manual Gear Stick Leather Boot

Hi there,

I have recently replaced the leather boot on a 2007 manual gear stick as it was worn out. In the process of replacing the worn out boot I had some trouble with these weird metal clips (see images attached) holding the plastic frame at the bottom of the leather boot, in place. Upon trying to remove them I snapped off the plastic lugg it was attached to, so had to buy a new plastic chrome gear stick trim surround. Now my issue lies with the fact that the metal clips don't fit on the replacement trim as the luggs are too small compared to the internal diameter of the metal clips. I would therefore really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction of getting some new clips that fit the smaller luggs please.

Many thanks,

Dom

After a bit more digging I have found out they are called starlock washers. Much easier to find what you're looking for when you know the name of the product you're looking for. Laughing Freelander 2 XS 2013

Hi Ronin I purchased this one from ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FREELANDER-2-20...:rk:1:pf:0

Leather feels and looks good quality. Only difference I noticed, to the genuine one, is that it is slightly longer so bunches up more but that doesn't affect functionality. The pictures in the listing are very similar to the results I got.

I must add that replacing it was a pain in the Censored for me anyway (I am by no means a car mechanic). First of the clips are a nightmare to remove and I ended up breaking the plastic but I have since read that people cut the round metal clips (starlock washers) to remove them. Also I didn't realise that the leather boot at the bottom is actually glued to the plastic frame so you have to peel that away and then affix it again to the frame.

Just some food for thought.

I know, it does make it look easy and that's why i decided to attempt the procedure, following that video to the letter. Unfortunately it doesn't show him removing all the starlock washers and actually replacing the leather gaitor boot.
It's definitely a worth while fix to do if your current gaitor is proper tatty. Freelander 2 XS 2013
