Scotland 2014 Freelander 2 TD4_e Dynamic Manual Fuji White
Frozen out of the car

Well today going to work at 06.30 I came to find my doors all frozen solid including the tailgate.

20 Censored minutes later after pouring warm water around the drivers door I finally managed to get in!

First time experience ever Rolling Eyes MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

I’ll have to get some silicon - that happens nearly every time there’s a frost with our Evoque. Keep thinking I’m going to break the door handle. Luckily, as I park near to the house, the passenger side doesn’t get any frost so it’s a case of getting in the passenger side and pushing the door open from inside! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I’ve always used Gummi pflege stift on all the rubber seals, never do get the doors frozen shut. It’s a German rubber care which is used in North America and Canada. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

Sprayed my seals last week for that very reason with a cold forecast in the outlook. Used GT85 but may not be the best gear for it but it was to hand. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

That was the number one cause of Freelander 1 tailgate handles coming away from the rear door. (and the fact the metal bolts that held the handle on would rust and expand in the plastic causing the handle to crack)

PS ..... I have one of these, for when it is mild ice and soft snow......

I am retracting any statement that I use and recommend GT85 on door seals as mine are sticking today. I will need to find an alternative. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I’m glad you posted this Nut because my fellow Velar owners are cracking up because some have had frozen door handles. They are now complaining it’s poor design and they don’t think they should take any precautions with sprays etc and it’s all LRs fault with a lack of winter testing. I pointed out door handles freeze on any car.

I’m definitely a fish out of water with that crowd. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
