EGR Valve just replaced...

Had 'Restricted Performance' warning and limp mode kick in on the Motorway last Friday just after filling up with supermarket diesel.
Unfortunately the code reader at my local independent showed 'failed EGR' rather than fuel/filter problems.
This was the first one they had done (mine is a 13MY with 76,000 miles) and it took them 10.5 hours, although they billed me for half that, total just over £700!
So....what can I do to stop it happening again? Better fuel or additives?...and am I likely to get any related problems.
I was going to get my Haldex serviced but have just spent the contents of my 'car pot'! Sad

As it could be another 76,000miles/5 years before it happens again (if it does)I would forget about it as you might not have the car then. My 2012 FL2 managed 154,00mls on the original one and was still going strong when sold it although Yorky Bob recons that there was an issue with 2013 year EGRs as he had issues with his. If you have the same issue that he had then changing it should mean your fine for a good while.

Hi

Glad you got it sorted and all is well again, although £700 sounds a bit on the steep sid to me a new PIERBURG OEM LR000997 egr valve about £155 labour time is appox 6 hours at say £55 pre hour (non franchised) should have been around about £500, I bet they did not remove the bulk head fire wall to gain better access. Do you have a breakdown of parts and labour.

AJ - Yes, thanks, maybe not quibbling too much about the cost, (6.6hrs labour @ £63 and slightly more for the part), just expensive maintenance that I suppose I kind of signed up for by not having bought a warranty for the last two years.....
Nice garage and kept me honestly informed throughout.
