What do Land Rover say ? If I knew I am not sure I would tell the world how to get spare car keys sorted but Ebay may have something on offer. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

You need to get a new key and then get it coded to your car.

You should also remember that this could mean that there is a key around that could be used to open and drive away your car that you are not in control of. My understanding is that whoever does the coding is actually telling the car which keys to react to so will be able to disable the missing keys access. |

Ive seen something which says that when a key is coded it clears down all other keys linked to the car, so I guess that you need to have the new and old key recoded at the same time as the original will stop working?? |

A local mobile locksmith can probably do you a new key programmed for around £120 or so but it would not be a genuine key but that should not be a problem. They will cut a new blade and program your original key as well in that price so that removes the issue of anyone being able to use the other original key to steal your car. That will allow you to send off the other key and get it refurbished and get a new battery fitted if it needs it. There is a member on here that refurbs keys(but is giving up soon)or plenty of Ebay sellers offering the service. There was a recent thread about it. Its still expensive at £120 but much cheaper than having to sort it out if you lost your only key or it stops working and you don`t have a spare. There is not any point in buying a spare key from Ebay as you will still need to get it programmed and anyone who does program keys probably won`t program a key that you have bought elsewhere. Good luck! |

I was in the same boat as you when I bought my Freelander a couple of years ago as I had only one key and the promised 2nd key from the dealer never happened. I did a search on the internet and a local company came out on a Saturday morning and did it all in about 15mins or so. Cost £120.

Yes, I forgot to say that the prices I quoted above did not include getting a new blade cut as I still had my old blade from my faulty key. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green
