rear fixed crossbar roofrails

Just got the roofrails from Duckworth, and put them on the car. Looks great Thumbs Up
I wonder if the rear fixed crossbar is neeeded?
Why do i ask? Just don't know if the Freelander gets any issues at the car wash Rolling Eyes
Had a Discovery 2 with full length roofrails, and did not have a fixed crossbar. 'per aspera ad astra'

The D2 rails tended to be prone to allow rain in around the mounts,
I'm not aware of the Freelander 2 rails leaking,
also at my car wash tend to use the rails as climbing bars, so a bit of bracing could be a good idea.

I'm not affraid of any leaks, just the rear fixed crossbar might have an issue with the rotating brushes at the carwash Whistle 'per aspera ad astra'

This is another set of roof rails I built. They are both 3dr and 5dr cut and bonded, it has no aero cross bar. When carrying my sleeping pod I used 4 (yes four) Freelander 1 'box' cross bars. Laughing

Take the fixed cross bar off as long as you never want to carry anything on the roof. The fixed crossbar stops the roof rails skewing.

There is only a self tapping screw holding the rail to the centre support. The screws fell out & the cenrtre support came off when I unscrewed it from the roof.

Nyloc nut chamfered to fit & key into roof rail.

New M6 Allen bolt replacing self tapper.

Bottle brush used inside rail to hold Nyloc nut in position which tightening up bolt.

Two pairs of cross bars. On rough roads I take the solar panels off the roof & use up the fuel as quick as possible to get weight down.
