Heated Washer Jet - Retrofit (almost)

In the cold weather last year I had a single day where my washer jets froze up over night on the drive, very annoying. So I figured that before the cold hit this year I would retrofit the heated washer jets that where an option on FL2s. I actually bought the Jets over the summer and dragged my heals on fitting them as the weather has been so mild. This week has been a little colder so I figured I would finally get them on the car.

The heated washer jets are as simple as they sound, a heating coil around the brass jet that is directly and permanently powered. There are two sets of jets on the bonnet, which are angled differently, this means when buying washer jets they are handed. There have also been a number of changes over the years;

    LR002263 until 9H143740
    LR002264 until 9H143740
    LR017274 - > (JET RH) [(V) 9H143741 - (V) DH337783]
    LR017284 - > (JET LH) [(V) 9H143741 - (V) DH338313]
    LR048708 – Right Side (Driver RHD)
    LR048710 – Left Side (Passenger RHD)

Because the difference between the washers is the angle of the brass jets, its pretty difficult to determine which is left and which is right if you open both boxes, so I marked them as left and right when they arrived.

The wiring is relatively straight forward, but I couldn't be bothered in this case to figure out what the OEM connector is so cut them off and put Tyco Sure Seal connectors on as I have many of them to hand. With the old connectors removed, I started wondering just how much power these things use and how hot they get given that they are on all the time.

The graph shows the draw for a single jet, but still not a lot. Annoyingly I haven't kept a record of the brass temp but it was some where around 35c (forget to make a note) after 5 minutes and stayed at that temp for a further 10 minutes (19c room temp).

So next up, wiring harness. Seemed too simple so I checked against other LR cars of the same era and the connections are all on the same principle, permanently wired.

I didn't have the right wires to hand, so went over size in something similar;

Easy when you can see the wiring lengths on the harness diagram. I still didnt know where they join the main vehicle harness but I figured with the right harness length it would become apparent.

So yesterday I came to fit them and while topping up the washer fluid I noticed something, wires taped to the washer hose going under the bonnet liner. I dropped the bonnet sound reduction material and laughed, pretty hard, until I cried at my stupidity. Big Cry

Yep, the car already has them installed. Evidently part of the cold pack (PTC Heater, heated seats, heated glazing), but interestingly I doesn't show in any of the spec lists I have (or its hidden under something odd)

So to help anyone in the future, I noticed the metal clips holding the jets to the underside of the bonnet

I think these are ;
    LR007064 – Cable Mounting Clip

also the overlay harness has a part number on it;
    7G92-14297-AG

Easiest retrofit I've done to date

There is another thread regarding replacing the LR spray jets with Ford Transit ones to give a better spray pattern.

Just to update this thread, Im sure Vanny won’t mind and he can add this to the completed index Whistle Laughing
The plug location to plug the link lead in is located in the drivers side wheel arch at the top behind the splash guard.

The LR part number for the link lead is LR008046.

I’ll be fitting mine this weekend (NOT) as it’s a mild weekend (it’s is actually)!

I’m sure this feature will come handy for those in more suitable climates Laughing MY15
