Bell Engineering

not on a Freelander2 (well not an actual FL2 but an Ewok which is techinically a FL2 after cosmetic surgery Laughing )

Just had the Haldex gen 4 service, PTU oil and rear diff oil all changed by Austen at Bell Engineering. Really cannot fault his service in any way, if you want an example of customer focused just go and speak to him. 100% recommended for anything FL1/FL2/Evoque transmission related.
he has an impressive collection of VCU, IRD, PTU and Diffs on his shelves all looking like new, and I got to see his modification to the PTU splines. Engineering innovation at its finest Bow down

I even got to drive his old FL1 TD4 while mine was on the ramps.... now that brought back happy memories Laughing

Nice riverside town a couple of miles down the road with cafes and pubs etc called Bewdley to go to while you wait (you will need a car to get there though)
or you could walk the mile or so back up the lane where the workshop is to the Wyre Forest Viistors centre where they have a nice little coffee shop or walks through the woods if you have family or dogs

im lucky in that my brother has just moved to a village near to Bell so I can combine the visits.

Good to know about the walks, thanks will take my hiking boots along, not sure what will need doing or might be just as well getting everything done? Austin sounds like a decent chap so will see what he says.

Much waiting list Rog? If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

I booked yesterday with him when I was there end of November last year which was the earliest slot IIRC

it could just be a placebo effect, but my Ewok seems to be a smoother drive than before and bit more grippy possibly. its hard to tell exactly.

it was 7 year old oils and Haldex filter that had done 57k miles, ive no idea if its ever had a new rear diff or PTU etc as LR wouldn't tell me the history due to data protection Shocked

however I would say its well worth doing if you plan to keep the car, it certainly wont hurt having it done.

I will look into this, as mine is 7 years old this Autumn, and to my knowledge, has never had any of those bits looked at or serviced. Bewdley isn't too far away from me, and is a lovely town to wander around. IIRC there are some fantastic public walks through the Golf course as well, but it has been a while since I was last over that way, so don't hold me to ransom on that one.

Was it expensive to have it all overhauled?

Well as far as I can see most been done to mine since new in that department.

Data protection? So how are you meant to know any issues if it wasn't on OSH. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

@ Southam - the prices are all on his website. Haldex service is Β£150 + VAT and I think the diff oils were Β£75 + VAT

@Jules - it was easy to track down the main dealer that had worked on mine as all the receipts for general maintenance (brakes, A/B services) were in the folder. I called them to see if anything further had been done such as rear diff or anything and was told they would have to speak to the previous owner to see if it was ok to release that information due to data protection. How on earth a rear diff could provide bank account details I will never understand!! Rolling Eyes

The funny thing is that the previous owners name and address were all over the receipts, and his private registration number (he now has a brand new DS IIRC) Laughing

I was Bell Engineering's first FL2 customer with a Electronic Hand Brake. I went for a wander and left him to get on with it, he then had to work out how to switch the damned thing off, made Austen scratch his head for a while.

First class bloke and job even though its not on the doorstep. Thumbs Up FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Transfer box

Can’t speak highly enough of bell engineering, I got the dreaded whine FL2 HSE TD4 2013 74000 miles.caught I early & thought it was the diff..
Booked in & explained they said they would diagnose, turned out it was the transfer box.
They thought it was as the diff in 2013 has the upgraded bearing, what they don’t know about the freelander isn’t worth knowing.
Great people, great service thanks very much..

Hmmmmmm. This whine, is it there all the time or comes and goes? There's a whAt I would call a whistle but could be whine at certain times.

TIA If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.
