Having exactly the same issue and can't be bothered with the expense of fitting a tow bar, I spoke with Landrover regarding wiring for a light board as you may need a software update also, Landrover were not prepared to fit the electrics unless a tow bar or fabricated plate was fitted . Two racks that should fit are Thule 991 and Mont blanc S3 but still would need a light board.

Roadhog : Regarding the towing electrics - It very much depends upon the age of the vehicle - early vehicles were annoying as they needed the dealer to update software and the loom kit required various boxes and fuses to be fitted. Later models have a much simpler additional loom to install and its plug-n-play. Jules

I've got a spare loom plug and play for a MY2013 onwards should just be plug and play

I would like what I paid for it £30 plus postage which is not bad for a genuine LR part - I need to point out a couple of things:
1. It is USED but in good order
2.it is just the loom no relays etc which should just be plug and play on late model cars
I originally bought it thinking a 7 pin plug would also work but of course it didn't and I learned a bit more about cars!

>MY13 OEM plug and play electrics still need two fuses and a relay fitting (supplied in the kit)

The actual installation work, assuming a Land Rover wiring kit is used, is a really easy diy job. Full fitting instruction are available on Topix.

Roadhog: your car (MY13) needs the later 100% plug and play kit. I don't know if there is a single 12N kit but fit a thirteen pin kit and simply use a 13 to 7 pin adaptor for a light board. I use one for the little trailer.

I imagine the dealer said no without a tow bar or pre-fitted suitably fabricated plate because the socket mounts are designed to fit directly onto the tow bar. Fitting it anywhere else would be beyond their ability.

Thanks guys, I had given up on this, it's in for a service and MOT next week so I'll speak to the mechanics.👍

My towbar kit did not require any extra fuses or relays - that is the older models No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Rear bike carrier

Has anyone tried the Thule 9104 rear 3 bike carrier on a Freelander 2?

The Thule web site says that it fits.

Interesting thread. I'm about to get an e Bike and as it will be twice the weight of my current bike (which I just shove in the back of my FL2), I'll need to have a towbar fitted to take the rack I want (Thule Easyfold XT).

I'll be getting a third party to supply and fit the bar. Two questions:

1. I have the option of 7 or 13 pin connection. Is it best to get the 13 pin rather than the 7 (The Thule has 13 but many owners use a cheap 13-7 adaptor)?

2. Will the rear parking sensors have to be disabled? Freelander 2 2010 [MY2011] FA 2.2 TD4 XS

I had a tow bar fitted with a 7 pin connection which works perfectly the parking sensors are automatically disabled and the indicator lights on the heads up display have an added trailer light. I think the cpu automatically senses when a trailer or light board is attached .

Thanks. That's good to know as the 7 pin option is a lot cheaper. Freelander 2 2010 [MY2011] FA 2.2 TD4 XS

Worth noting that ‘dedicated’ rather than simple by-pass (universal) electrics will be needed to control certain features like parking sensors, rear fog lights and dashboard trailer lamp.

If you never intend to tow a caravan then seven pin is the perfect choice.. The extra pins in twin or thirteen pin simply provide for a caravan's reversing lights, fridge, habitation battery charging and automatic trailer control if fitted to the caravan.

nb. You may need to get dedicated kit enabled for features beyond basic road lighting but not entirely sure with 7 pin
