Just to add my bit, Ive been out and had a look under the battery cover, no sign of any type of fuse. My car is a june 08 reg car. The dealer has checked for me and there are no outstanding recall actions on the car.

Based on this is it fair to say I have an operational PTC thingy. I turned it on via the prog button after work tonight and to be honest i wasnt aware of any significant temp increase for probably 2 minutes.

Is that about right?

Depends on what the ambient temperaure is inside the car, if its cold then you should notice warm air coming onto the windscreen within a minute or so, but if it's not cold in the car then you should notice cooler air coming through the vents.

Thats my experience of it anyway. ______________________

I know we are all really labouring this but it is strange how our vehicles differ.
My aircon was off this morning, no prog button or heated screen buttons pressed and within 30 secs there was a warm (not hot) air flow from the vents.

I was going to propose using two £100 notes, but if you insist on 50's thats fine by me Laughing ______________________

OK, this is what i did this afternoon before going for a play in the snow.
Temp on dash display was showing -1 and before fireing the FL2 up i turned both temp control dials to minimum and opened all vents with fan on No1 setting, no air con/prog button/front&rear elec screens on.
As I expected no heat after a couple of minutes after engine start up (so no auto start up of PTC) then simply turned up the temp control dials and hey presto full heat (the PTC kicking in).
So my take on it is that the PTC heater is basically a pre heater for the cab that operates untill you get the engine up to working temp.
The prog button just utalizes this PTC heat along with the defrost functions of the elec front & rear screens + air con to be a simple one touch control on cold/frosty start ups.

@ Dave and Sammy,

Thanks a lot for sorting that out - it was worth it I would say, considering all these people / forum members being as confused as I was. I shall treat that PTC then as you did and will focus on the temp control dials then to get the warm air. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
