if you do some research instead of throwing negatives around you will find your silicone you purchase at the plumbers merchants can be purchased acid free It may cost a touch more but won’t attack delicate surfaces like paint on or off cars. All a leaking high level light needs is that product but by all means carry on telling other members to buy parts they don’t need. As I also do a lot of my own plumbing it’s something I would find in my shed most of the time but that seems to be anathema for some reason or other. Only problem with sealing with sealant is when the bulb requires replacement. I fitted a new lamp when mine started to leak and have since bought a seal from ebay when I found them, if its required in a few years time great I have a spare seal to fit.

I saw the seals on eBay but for some reason, I am wary of things on eBay. No doubt it is a perfect fit That said, at 5 years old the light casing had green mildew that I couldn't get to so I just went for a new one.

I remember buying a clear brake light for my 59 plate car to replace the factory fit red one... it was an inexpensive and common 'upgrade'. I can't help but think the older style red light may just look better on my Firenze Red car than the white one.


For the avoidance of doubt, none of the above is given and nor should it be taken as advice to buy new parts.

Mine leaked when I bought as used approved from main dealer. Went for replacement light but in reality they just siliconed it, but told me they had replaced it. Anyhow with the heat over summer it started leaking again so I removed it and did as the dealer should have and replaced it for £50. Sorted, then I bought seal from eBay, cleaned up old unit and have replacement ready for next time it fails. BTW dealer lost out on me servicing the car with them due to not being completely honest.

Mine same found boot wet and then after a shower was wet shopping and bought a seal and all was cool and dry

Mine was the same.
All I did was buy a new seal off fleabay £6 total.
Took the old one out , which took 15-20 mins cleaning up the light fitting the put the new one in then I very lightly put some Vaseline on the paintwork, then put the whole fitting back in place.
That did the job perfectly.

What I did was just remove light put two layers of thick duck tape on the door click light back, job done & it’s been leak free for last five years.

£6 gasket from eBay for high level brake light, 45 minutes work and a bit of, Castrol LM grease job done.
Only bit that I had greave with was putting the interior trim back, but I think that was because I wasn't holding in the right position to get top clips in place.

I keep smearing the original seal with a silicone grease when I get a few drops of water on luggage cover. Seems to last about a year and then I do it again. I bought the replacement seal from eBay about 3 years ago but not got round to putting it on.

Ive told you all once!plummers mate,apply around hole push lamp in,may need trial and error as if you put too much on the lamp wont clip in .
