United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HST Manual Zermatt Silver
Whine at 2000 rpm

Hi All

I have a um 'little' problem my Hippo seems to have given me an early Christmas present Sad

I have developed a distinct loud whine from the front end between 2000 rpm and 2800rpm. When I knock it out of gear and disengage the power train the whine goes as the revs drop, I can make it re-whine if I raise the revs to the specific range but it is much louder when the power train is engaged.

My feeling that my turbo has decided to walk towards the light however I'm not totally sure, I feel that the whine gets louder when the engine is under load hence putting an increased pressure on the turbo unit but I have been wrong before.

Could it be what I think or could it be maybe the front transfer box bearing or DMF?

If it is the turbo a local turbo rebuild company offer either a complete replacement unit or a replacement cartridge, I have looked into the cartridge swap which seems an easy operation however are there any pitfalls in doing this?

Any help would be incredibly appreciated and happy christmas Very Happy If your going through hell, keep going!

Wrapper of rear pillars 😀
