LR official headlamp mod ?

Been meaning to post this for a while.
Like many others, my car has been popping headlight bulbs like it was going out of fashion. So, it went in for its first mot recently (another story!) and I complained about the constant bulb blowing as it is still under warranty. The immediate reply was "are you using original LR bulbs sir? To which I replied I had tried LR, the cheapest, the dearest, brightest and long life and it makes no difference. They were just in the process of dismissing the fault as non original bulbs had been fitted when one of the customer service chaps that I have got to know well walked past and caught the gist of the conversation and chipped n that there was a "wiring modification"for this problem. I said if there is a recall for a headlamp issue then I would like it. I was told that it wasn't a recall and is only done after investigation.

Anyway, They ended up doing the mod and fitting two new bulbs. Now, it may be my imagination but I would put the beam brightness now at about 75% of what I have been used to.

Hess anyone else had this "mod" or heard of what it entails? As I say the brightness thing may be my imagination, after all the evenings started getting lighter at about the time it went in.

Owned mine from new and I've never heard of this alleged MOD. In the end I bought a pair of brand new MY15 xenons headlamps.

Mine has blown 2 bulbs already in 2 months. They are GE standard 60w HB3 bulbs. My Evoque went through loads of the same bulbs, even shattering the bulb glass on 2 occasions and melting the glass on another 2.
I do believe there is a compatibility problem between LR/RR electrucs and these crappy HB3 bulbs (no matter what the bukb make id)
I may well drop into the dealer to discuss this problem and see if there is a dealer fix

I'm not sure if it's the same on the FL2 as with the Disco 3/4, but on the Disco there is an option in the CCF (Car Configuration File,) to select either Xenon or Halogen lights, the selection made determines how the power is applied; for Halogen lamps the power is applied "slowly" via a soft start arrangement to avoid stress on the filaments. For Xenons, the power is applied without the soft start to ensure the lamps start up properly without flickering.

Maybe this is the mod that was applied, it needs to be done via the OBD port with a suitable diagnostic tool.

Rog your car will most likely be set for halogen headlamps unless the previous owner had xenons fitted and had the ccf changed as Clive has mentioned. Prior to sale they may have popped the halogens headlamps back in.

Mine which I've owned from new used to pop bulbs every 4 months or so. I ended up finally getting a pair or brand new MY15 xenons and the light output is crazy even against upgraded HB3 night breaker unlimited bulbs.

The problems with the facelift Freelander is that where the full beam bulb would be located it's now occupied by the DRL cluster. Therefore one bulb with a single filament HB3 works both dip and full beam. When driving in dip beam a metal shutter covers part of the bulb providing the dip and when driving full beam the shutter fully retracts. The shutter can cause the bulb housing to overheat resulting in a blown bulb. If you operate the lights with the ignition on you can hear the shuttering operating.

When I ran halogens, I had upgraded bulbs which clearly state they don't last longer as the filaments burns hotter to create more light outputs. BUT when I removed the auto lights the bulbs lasted about 6 months before popping. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Nut - it was specced from new with the standard halogen, and no extras were addded to the standard HSE spec for 2013.
Just seems strange that quite a few on here have had the problem of blown bulbs. Most just persevere or like you, stretch to fitting xenons. But thats out the budget id be willing to pay.

I admit being a bit thick when it comes to headlights Idea
having read over the months about people complaining about freelanders having crap lights, I simply thought mine were ok.

I reckon my 07 HSE has the xenon self levellers as there is no roller button to change the levels, which I guess also has AFS as well, can anyone confirm that please? Bow down 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

As in an earlier post a while back now I had the resistance wire fix under technical bulletin LTB00841V2 released March 2016. Thanks Rogb.
This is a free of charge fix so don't let them tell you different and touch wood new lamps ( bulbs go in gardens Very Happy ) have not blown since.

I think this will be the mod the OP refers to.

By adding resistance wire to the circuit it reduces the current through the filament, which then burns cooler and thus lasts longer. The by product is that it will be dimmer.... Shocked

They have put these in for me since resistor fix 100% better and no blown lamps as yet.

So I am one happy bunny and it's worth taking good advice off the forum and using it. Nothing to lose as fix is free Confused If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.
