Rear passenger door wont open and child lock engaged

Hello Everyone!!

I have a 2007 Freelander 2 and cannot pass my MOT because the rear passenger door does not open.
The child lock is engaged and therefore cannot open it from the interior.
I have managed to remove the interior card but I cannot seem to understand how to disengage the child lock or open the door.
I have seen answers to this sort of question but they all include the door being open.
The solenoid works (or seems to work) because I can hear it, but to no avail. Lubed the crap out of it with silicone and nothing.
All I want at this point is to be able to open the door so it will pass the MOT.

Has anybody had anything like this happen??

Thanks in advance

The larger door lever on mine does not release the rear doors but get hold of the smaller locking lever and move that manually and it unlocks. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Seems to work is perhaps the key... I have very recently changed my front passenger door lock that sounded as if it was working. It would neither lock nor unlock the door but, that said, the door could be locked, unlocked and opened from inside with the handle and, if unlocked the outside handle also opened the door.

The child lock only disables door opening from inside. If the lock module was working properly you should be able to open the door from the outside regardless of the child lock setting.

Clues here perhaps? http://www.freel2.com/forum/post53657.html

Thanks for the replies and the reference to the other "solution" but if the smaller lever means the interior one then I am out of luck... remember the child lock is activated so the interior dorr handle doesnt work.
The situation is that there is absolutely no way of opening the door, Im am trying to open the dorr by any means possible without causing any permanent damage.
I have removed the door card and can look inside but I dont have a full view of everyhting because the locking mechanism is in the way. I obviously cant remove the locking mechanism because the bolts are on the exterior portion of the door that i cant access.
I can see the lever that moves when the exterior handle is opened but I cant fully understand what is "missing" I can see a spring that just sits there that should be doing something but to no avail.
attached are photos.
