I know someone who double declutches still now even on his modern car as he thinks its saves the transmission syncro etc, his clutch must have done twice the operations of a normal one for the same mileage? and his knee.

Still on original clutch at 105k, maybe slips a bit if pushed hard in high gears but been like this for 2 years at least. Just needs to last till December when my new one arrives.

Used to have an X-Type with the 2.2D engine which I think is similar to the FL2 engine, please correct me if I am wrong.

It was a company car and I used to use the cruise control set at 70mph from 30mph, enjoying the huge surge of torque.

Clutch started slipping at about 60K miles and needed changing, I concluded that the clutch was too small for the torque of the engine.

Switching in the cruise means the car accelerates far harder than you would normally press the accelerator.

I don't use the cruise to catch up any more just wait until I am at the speed I want and switch it in, so I guess motorway miles are only relevant to the way you drive.

34.000 miles so far and hoping.

Suspected leaking slave cylinder at 50000 miles causing pedal to stick sometimes at top of travel - doesn't affect clutch operation. Never towed , motorway driving ( but stop start motorway - M62 !!!)

I've just had it rebuilt after it went up in smoke in northern France as the wife drove it back to the UK. It had done 97000. I was told they usually went at about 120/130000. Mine maybe had more work to do as it's done a lot of driving in mountains.

My brother in law has an 09 reg FL2 and at 150k mils he thinks the clutch is just starting to slip. Note that the only jobs he has ever had done on it are very recently a rear wheel bearing and a sticking handbrake. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Does the dual mass flywheel last long on these cars?

Mine has had a replaced clutch and DMF at 80K.

£1100 - £1200 from an Indy! Mine is being done next week because of a sticking slave cylinder (probably) and once the clutch / gearbox is in bits you might as well get all new bits because a lot of the cost is labour 7 hrs. Not happy after 50000 miles!

That’s expensive for an Indy! You could get it done at a dealer for that. I’ve been quoted £300 labour so if I buy the parts I’m looking around £650 to £700 I think

Not the main dealers that I know - rybrooks, Farnell ( Leeds -with the Leeds 'supplement'). Don't know any more. Last service at my Indy was a lot cheaper than main dealer and I know it was done properly. I've been done by main dealers with replacement pads and discs on rear which really didn't need doing, and other things. Sorry I just don't trust them!

Don’t get me wrong I get the dealers thing, there are plenty of really good mechanics out there that charge a hell of a lot less than dealers and will do a much better job. Dealers don’t rely on the money from their service whereas the little garage I go to do!

I was just thinking that the price they have quoted seems rather high, what’s the garage if you don’t mind me asking?

Hi. It's called Parkside garage. I had my master cylinder replaced at another Indy in June to 'solve' the sticking pedal problem. Stonelake in Halifax. That was over £400 as that was the cheapest option to try to solve the hydaulic sticking problem. The sticking came back worse 3 months later. Parkside suggest Slave cylinder 90 % certain, but to get to that you might as well replace everything
