Very Loud Inside 😱 Sounds Normal Outside πŸ€”

Hi all, I was wondering if any of you guy’s had any idea’s as to why my FL2 HSE 2007 has all of a sudden started to sound ridiculously loud and throaty whilst driving from inside the cabin 😒 yet from outside it sounds perfectly normal.

I have had the exhaust throughly inspected at my garage and they say it is totally fine. Yet the car definitely sounds like it has an exhaust issue πŸ€” I was told it could possibly be the baffle/baffles have rotted out from inside their respective boxes. So I was wondering if this could be the case πŸ€” and if any of you have had experience of this before. Any opinions and help would be greatly appreciated, as the throaty drone at even lowish speeds is doing my head in 😒🀣

Maybe nothing has changed except a grommet or door has moved letting in noise.

Noise levels go up when mechanics have no replaced the steering column seal correctly, it’s right at the bottom where the column goes through the body. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I thought that the Freelander had stainless steel exhaust, so rust shouldn't be a problem.

Exhaust fumes tend to be mildly acidic, so lots of short journeys will allow acidic condensation to sit in the exhaust and rot from the inside out, whereas longer journeys get the exhaust hot enough to dry out. This is why with mild steel exhausts, short journeys = short exhaust life.

A good hit from underneath can damage exhaust internals, especially catalytic converters (your doesn't have one), but these tend to collapse causing exhaust restrictions. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

If the baffles in the silencer boxes have rotted away, effectively leaving a straight through exhaust, I'm quite sure you'd hear it even more standing outside the car...
