United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey
Starting Problems

My much loved 2007 135,000 mile Freelander 2 has started to play up with intermittent starting from cold. Glow plugs and new battery done as was 10 year service. Purrs like a kitten all day everyday. When it plays up the mileage display shows loads of 9999999 then restores to correct mileage. Sometimes it also resets the trip to zero as if immobiliser has cut in. Steering lock seems fine etc. From what I’ve read here I’m biased towards starter Motor/solinoid but thrown with display resetting. Anyone have any pointers. 2007 2.2 GS Td4

16mm 110 amp 36" length. Will trim if required but wanted to ensure I had enough to route cable neatly. 2007 2.2 GS Td4

Earth Lead

Earth lead from starter motor to battery negative has cured the problem. No more 9999999 on mileage display. Starts on the button every time now. Starting feels stronger when firing up. Many thanks to all for suggestions and input. 2007 2.2 GS Td4

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

Thanks for feedback. It seems that our Freelander, and most likely other electronic dominated cars, need lots of care and attention to the wiring and earthing as they age.

This Battery Earth Lead replacement/modification should be a must for all older cars.

The symptoms are not only starting problems, but random error codes, and/or faults, anywhere in car. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
