Roof rails - removable?

I'm planning to buy a Freelander 2. Would like to be able to fit a roof box. This means getting the roof rails. But can they be fitted and removed at will? The car looks better without them, so would prefer not to have them fitted permanently.

Also: bike carrier. The rear-doof bike carrier looks sophisticated, and it seems you need to buy a full tow kit. Is this right? Also, are there any other 'highstreet' available bike carriers that would fit. (I know a roof carrier is an option, but not so keen on this.)

the roof rails are not removeable,

you could remove them, but you would leave holes and trim missing

If you prefer the without roof rails look, maybe a set of thule roof rails with the feet that clamp onto the frame above the door Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I had the same issue, didn't like the look with the fl2 roof bars, so I purchased a set of Thile bars only last week. There are plenty of pics on this forum of the fl2 with these fitted, I couldn't just find them there to direct you, there were a few topics recently on the same point.

Many thanks for the great advice. I will certainly look at the Thule system. I would use a roofbox only a couple of times a year, I prefer the 'look' without the LR roof rails, and I read a lot of concerns regarding wind noise. Not a concern when you are using them, but a pain at other times. Especially as I plan to have the sun roof.

I've also found the Serach facility now!

Also there seem to be some complaints of wind noise with the originals.
I also would prefer removables to the fixed ones becouse of this.

Another Belgian! What color are you preferring?

I can highly recommend the Thule roofbars ! Bought a pair last year. Easy to install and better looking than the original ones. I'll look up the reference numbers asap or you can look it up at Thule.com.

Zone30. Dag / bonjour. I live in Belgium, but am a Brit. Have been here 4 years, and now feel settled. A great country.
On colour - between Stornaway Grey and Tonga Green. The annoying thing (with all car manufacturers0 is that they don't provide full photos of the cars in each colour. Its impossible to look at a little square in the brochure, or even a piece of metal in the showroom, and imagine how it looks on the full scale vehicle. The website has a computerised image on which you can change the colour. But still its not the same.
What do you recommend?

Tot ziens / au revoir

Dag Oakwood.

Guess you have to go to the dealers to find out.

Personaly I like black the most and green second.
Green one has the nice option to look great with a dark green upper dash with alpace below.
Rimini looks kind of pinkish to me, but only seen one under spotlights.

There's a dark grey one and green one in the showroom at Asse I believe last time I was there.
PS I bought mine in Gent.

If you're willing to wait and don't want to own a stock-car, you should ask for a TD4_e as they will start producing them in march. In my opinion it'll be a little bit better as they had to improve on some parts.
At least I did... expecting it around april/may.

Also browse this forum as there are some "must haves" for your car, like xenon for instance.

Also look in the galaries, you'll find many pictures there!

Tonga is defiantly the best FL2 colour in my opinion Thumbs Up but it seems not many dare buy that colour though Confused
I was going to order green, but my stealer dealer guided me away, saying that because it was not a popular colour the resale later might be more difficult. Secondly I was fed up with continuously cleaning dark colours (black, dark blue and dark grey on my last vehicles). Good luck with your choice Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Regarding colours - According to the 2009 brochure, Tonga Green will be replaced by Galway Green in 'early 2009' also Baltic Blue is to be replaced by Biscay Blue.

To see what the car looks like in all the colours go to the Landrover website and you can see each colour on the car and also what the various interiors look like.
It's here and if you let the page laod up you can rotate the car to see it from any angle.
