I have Nankang SV2 winters on 19" rims... about £530 plus fitting for four. We live at the top of a fairly steep, never cleared or gritted hill and these tyres certainly haven't ever seen us parking at the bottom of the hill along with our neighbours 'abandoned' cars. They feel very sure footed in all winter conditions and for a budget to mid range tyre, not too noisy.

made in Taiwan,some pepes will call these "inferior"they will be the ones who buy michelin crossclimates at grossly inflated prices

try googling good ride tyres,for reviews you wont see reviews on their web site ,just info,and like all brands of tyres there will be some knob who due to crap driving will diss the tyre what ever the brand!

That's independent reviews, conducted by the motoring press and feedback from end users.  DAVE.

What load rating have exisiting winter tyre owners gone for ?

There seem to be a big price difference from 103's up to the 107 I thought FL2's come with as standard.

Michelin is to close its tyre factory in Dundee, with the loss of about 850 jobs, confirming that it would leave the city by 2020.
The company said the factory was "unsuitable" given current market conditions and it would not be financially viable to invest further.
Scottish government Economy Secretary Derek Mackay will visit Dundee on Tuesday.
The UK government said it "stands ready" to do everything it can.
The union Unite has said the closure would be a "hammer-blow" to the city.
Michelin said the Dundee site, which opened in 1971 and specialised in smaller tyres, has suffered because of a shift in the market towards low-cost products from Asia.
The company praised its Dundee employees dedication but said that, in spite of that and its own "continuous efforts" the plant could not be saved.

It seems that cheap tyres are gaining in popularity. Although I am not sure that I can find enough reliable information to trust them yet.

Always too pricey as a brand for my liking, shouldn't have been really if they are made here but EU rules etc.......

There are but two things that matter in tyre , firstlybthat it performs as it should in the maximum duty that you as a driver subject it to . This is a variable of course as we all drive differently and in the case of the FL2 it varies in usage from “ soccer mums suv “ to “ Farm Truck . We all have different expectations

The second thing that matters is the lifetime cost of the tyre , taking into account the purchase price , the fuel economy from the individual drivers own style , and the cost per mile from the actual tyre before it gets to the point you consider to be your safe replacement limit .

Both my cars are on “ Premium “ tyres . The Bridgestone duellers on the Scooby have approx 32000 miles and still over 3 mm of tread . I’m going to replace them this week , given how I use that car, and given the miles the originals have done I’ll be buying “ premium” , as the extra cost ( <£1 per week over 3 years ) is insignificant in the overall cost of keeping the vehicle on the road .

Addendum . I’d looked at Quatrac 5 18” for the Scooby , £138 a corner fitted , the local tyre company couldn’t get a delivery date on them . Michelin were £ 162 a corner , and In the end I’ve plumped for Bridgestone A005 all weathers at £157. I am happy with them. Someone here said the tyres are the only thing between you and the road so take your choice: buy the cheap Asian brands to save a couple hundred pounds, may be, or buy the premium brands.
Yes buying cheap products makes jobs loss here, on top of that by buying you inadvertently support suppressed human rights and polluting the planet by the #£% regime. They are not cleverer than the West to make cheap products, they do it by ignoring enviroments concerns, stealing technical knowledge so no development costs, the lists go on.
You get " what you pay" is true!

Yes I do tend to buy Goodyear, as the tyres seem to work well in the wet, dry, and mud, and suit my harder driving style.
Have had no issues with Pirellis, Michelins grip well but wear quickly. Yes I do pay a little more, but I am buying piece of mind as well as a tyre - I have enough to worry about without piloting the best part of two tonnes of car and hoping it will get around the next bend. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

I have never had good mileage out of any Goodyear tyre - both my Disco and Freelander came with them fitted, I couldnt get rid of them quickly enough  Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I’ve just done 200 miles on the Bridgestone A005 Weather Control , all season tyre . Although they are on the Scooby I think the general observations would be valid for the FL2 ( although I’ll keep that on Scorpion ATR tyres , and then I’ve all bases covered with the two cars )

. Firstly , they are quiet , better than the Dueller Sports I replaced. Secondly even though they are “all season” , on a regular mixed urban / country route I know well , economy was not impaired . I got 41.5 MPG with my best driving beviour . Last , the wet weather grip is brilliant , it got tested today , steering is positive , direction change smooth no surprises the car felt planted . I’m not undually worried by the threat of what what I’ll term “sensible driving snow “ as the Scooby was mega during the “ Beast from the East” even on it’s summer tyres so these can only be an improvement . If the snow surpasses my limits for sensible driving , being a non working person I’ll just turn the heating up and stay at home . The tyres are rated and marked for snow use in regions where that is a requirement

On a practical note they are a directional tyre , so buying one as a spare would be silly , but as I’ve got a few hundred mile Dueller in the boot , that’s covered.

Obviously all tyre tests are biased , by tester or by regional preference , or by sponsorship , but all round I’d reckon this tyre is a good compromise for the U.K. where snow is infrequent and rain is a fact of life .
