This German parts company is moving back to Europe, and quite interestingly the article puts a cost to trading under WTO rules.

Heck of a lot of stuff made for export in the UK is made from materials imported so a crashing pound wont really help many firms.

I don't think this period in our history will be recorded as our "Greatest Hour"

Civil servants that I know are hating it. Apart from the headache of getting good people (not easy on government salaries) there's the nightmare of redesigning many of their systems. Example - apparently all the arrangements for farming subsidies etc in N Ireland are fully integrated with the Republic and different from the rest of the UK. I asked a recently retired very senior friend if he had been asked to go back - yes, apparently. And was he going to? No. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone 300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease 200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France FR2 TD4 GS - Gone FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge. |

No doubt the NHS is also having to put in contingency plans - it all costs lots. I recall the amount of time and effort that went into preparing for the Millennium Bug, which luckily was a non-event. Jules |
