Impact Wrench Recommendations

Decided for the winter/summer tyre swap over (and any other time for a wheel/tyre change) to save time, I have decided to get a cordless impact wrench to speed the process up.

I am looking for something like this https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-cir...mpact-wre/
not sure it will be quite up to the job though?

Any recommendations welcome

I have a Bosch 10.8v 115Nm 3/8" Blue Professional. It's brutal on nuts & screws, more likely to snap things off if not careful. I haven't tried it on the car wheels. It probably is not enough. But my main view is their hammering action is so sharp I don't think it is the best tool for wheel nuts in the long run. I have heard of situations where the actual nut starts spinning in the nut hex cover then you are in trouble.

I have a 3/4 inch tee handle which once you get the nut loose, which has never been difficult with this size handle, you then simply centre the handle to spin the nut off or on.

Also, 2ah batteries are as useless as herding cats. Get a 6ah battery, I have a couple these for other Bosch 18v tools. Also get a pair of UVEX xV Earmuffs 37db or you will bug_er your hearing with impact wrenches. I think they may have reduced the rating 1db now. They are round fluro green, not the blue ones, or oval. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Thanks lightwater, with the FL2 wheel nuts tightened to 140nm I thought a wrench with about 3x the power may do the job. Will certainly get a larger battery. Also heard about the nuts just spinning under the cover. Liked the look of the AEG 1/2" impact wrenches but getting them in the UK is expensive compared to others

I've got the smaller of the Makita 18v LXT 1/2" impacts, it's cracking around the car and in timber construction projects, but it's a bit on the weak side for wheel bolts. I've used a much more powerful DeWalt one which was excellent.

Word of warning. Buy the correct sockets or the bolt heads will be trashed if they are shinny!

I have an ancient Metabo 18 volt hammer drill. I needed to upgrade but went 10.8 volt (pretend 12 volt) & can't believe how good these things are these days. So much lighter than 18 volt & good enough for most things. Easier to handle, especially overhead.

Bosch 10.8 volt (12 volt) Blue Professional:
Hammer drill GSB x 2 (this is far better than the brushless)
Brushless drill (compact)
Impact wrench 115Nm (snaps screws if not careful!)
Circular saw (very thin blade is surprisingly useful)
Angle grinder (brilliant tool overall, & to get into small spaces or overhead use for hours of work)
Dremel equivalent
GLI LED flood light x 3 (handy)
vacuum
1.3ah battery x 1 (useless at best!)
2.5ah battery x 4 (ok)
4.0ah battery x 4 (far better) (They now do 6.0ah)
chargers x 3

18 volt
Palm sander (work well)
leaf blower (work well!)
vacuum (got it because it was cheap)
6.0 ah battery x 2

If I need a big drill I have a 1100 watt hammer drill & a small GSH 388 demolition hammer (a decade old). Current favorite tool is the very small Bosch 10.8v angle grinder! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I bought this DeWalt earlier this year and it is brilliant! Caravan hub nuts are are tightened to 290Nm and this thing has them off in seconds. Only downside it that it is a bit big and heavy for smaller stuff but it will shift anything.

Ha, the dewalt XR does look tempting but I was thinking somewhere around the 450-650nm range so slightly smaller but still able to do the wheel changes

Thinking of getting the Ryobi 1/2" impact wrench, it seems a good piece of kit and I like the idea of 1 battery for all. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Go careful its addictive, once you have the battery you want it all.

Never done wheel nuts with mine, but its in use most weeks often daily.

milwakee are highly rated on the farmers forum, not cheap but known for quality, maybe trading on their past reputation rather than present offerings.

Same parent company as Ryobi as it happens.

I recently got my shipping container broken into, they nicked stihl and karcher saws blowers and power washers, and left my quality ryobi gear on the shelf, Im quite offended Big Cry At work

Lets not muck around here:

New Milwaukee 1" battery impact wrench https://shoptoolreviews.com/automotive/imp...deo/34019/

I can't find specs on this but it should be about 2500 - 2900Nm, she'll break anyone's nuts! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
