Sand/grit in the engine bay - cleaning tips?

Hello all,

I recently attended Slindon 4X4 Safari in West Sussex in my standard FL2. It was great fun and I was able to take on most obstacles.

However, one bog hole that I went in was a little deeper than I thought. Muddy water went up and over the bonnet even covering the wipers! The result of this is sandy/gritty residue all over the engine bay.

Does anyone have any recommendations for how to thoroughly clean this out? I hosed it all down after getting home but it had already settled by then. Using a brush (wet) or sponge seems to just move the grit around.

Worst than that, I've got grit in the window sills and it sounds horrendous when opening/closing the windows! My preference would be to rip out the current sills and put new ones in! 2018 - 2007 '56 manual HSE Freelander 2

The wife?..... she likes toys! The compressor works well, also with a vacuum, it is surprising how much dirt you'll get out of cracks! & the boot hinges. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
