United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Santorini Black
eBay replacement key fob

Anyone have any experience of these?

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=ht...2643287506

Supposedly a direct replacement for the OEM LR013005. Supposedly with virgin, unprogrammed chips.

I messaged the seller to enquire if they come with a barcode (which I thought was vital?) - his reply:

“no, it comes without bar code. Any independent locksmith can program the key without that code”

Are they too good (cheap) to be true?

No experience of these whatsoever but I do believe they can be programmed without the barcode (you will need a working key as well), as long as you have the key programmer to do it. You would also need to get the emergency key cut to match. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.
171037Km as of 09/05/22
Superchips Bluefin Flash
Nanocom Evo II (also sold)

Thanks. The last time I looked (over a year ago) these ‘clones’ didn’t exist. Now they’re all over ebay from £22 to £50 - they all look like the same item.

Might be worth a punt... the cheapest I can get a genuine Land Rover one is about £110..

Thanks. I’ve bought a couple on a whim and contacted a local auto-locks guy who reckons he can code them. If they’re rubbish they’ll be going back but I’ll report back here for others benefit.

So, the fobs arrived today. Good, quick service.

They look and feel ok - the micro-switches feel positive.

The emergency keys from my old fobs fit them fine. In the picture I’ve attached you can see one of the new fobs with an old key inserted. The old fob is top right of the pic.

I hope to get them coded this week but so far, so good.

The result..

Richard from https://www.brightoncarkeys.co.uk came this morning and coded the two eBay fobs. He charged £80.

They work perfectly and don’t stick in the slot like my original, swollen fobs do.

Obviously it’s very early days - who knows if these fobs will last as long as the OEM ones?

As of now though, they do seem a bargain at £23 each.

Hi

I have used these people when I left the key in my jeans pocket and my OH accidentally washed and tumble dried my Freelander 2 (2014) 5 button smart key, they supplied and coded the key to the car, £140 all in which I thought was a good deal compared to LR price. The key is exactly the same just no LR logo.

Do these keys have a "soft feel" to them like the originals or is it a fully hard case and buttons? -Mark
