EBD fault - or not - a short tale of woe | |
After filling up the tank this morning, at 6am, started the car, went to clear the odo but stupidly pressed the 'start' button and turned the engine off. I do this all the time, no idea why, something clearly not wired right in my brain.
Turn engine back on, only it wont. Cycles ignition on and then ignition off. Brake lights are working so the pedal is detected, key is detected, but it wont start. I can only describe my emotions at this point with expletives. It really can't be something major. Lock, give it a minute. Unlock, no better.
I notice just as the ignition goes back off its flagging EBD fault, common issue on RR with dead battery. Its original, but holds a good charge, alternator is fine. It does 120 miles a day, everyday. OBD read and clear, nothing. It feels like the engine is being immobilised. Don't really want to take a day off work to get the damn thing recovered 2 miles back up the road. Wife wont be happy if I call her to bring me a laptop.
Bonnet up, drag the negative terminal off the battery, leave it, put it back on. No change (although its now the year 2009). I want to cry.
Take it out of Drive, put it in Park, fires right up
Equal parts relieved and feeling like the stupidest person alive.
Hope this cheers someone up!
