England 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Auto Barolo Black

I'm hoping to get my Fl2 machine polished as it looks like it's been through a carwash quite a bit . I've got a Dewalt rotary and was hoping to get a Shinemate compact rotary for the harder to reach areas. I've got some Sonax Perfect Finish polish and some Scholl concepts S3 gold XXL compound to try on mine . I'll get some pics up when I start it .

Well I didn't get my Fl2 machine polished as planned , instead I did the wife's. The car was thoroughly decontaminated using Powermaxed iron remover and all the bottom half was sprayed with Autosmart tardis tar remover , this was followed up by claying using Meguiers claybar . After a thorough rinse and dry next up was machine polishing using the full size Dewalt rotary and the Shinemate mini rotary for the tricky bits , first stage polishing was taken care of by the Sonax Perfect Finish and then the second stage was Meguiers M205 which really brought out a deep glossy shine , due to time constraints I didn't get time to put any long term protection on the car , instead I applied a coat of Sonax brilliant shine detailer which is very durable and gives 4/6 weeks protection . Tyres were dressed with Finishkare fk108as to finish.

On-board pressure car washing upgrade option!

So I am not wasting water in the outback or at home for that matter the system uses 0.5 litre of water per minute at continuous running air pressure of 40 PSI. The water spray up close on my hand has a bit of a bite to it but not enough to do any damage or harm to people or the car. The air & the water work well together getting in all the crevices. The air by itself was really good so I can go over the car dry. Then do a second run with water.

It will be good to be able to clean up this because it you don't get it off quickly it sets like concrete.

The air gun works well enough as an air gun only so I don't need to carry a second air gun. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Thanks very much. I've replaced the siphon hose with 6mm ID so it's much more manageable & put a hose snap on fitting on the bottom of the pipe which has a water stop valve so the water doesn't drain out of the hose. The neighbour saw the setup running & nearly kicked the bucket laughing, but thought it was absolutely brilliant.

Real world test saving water getting dust out of vehicle cracks:

If your car's cracks are full of dust & you have enough compressor power. Get an air duster/gun. I bought an Air Boy blower gun - Waterboy. They are pricey, I'm sure there are plenty of alternatives, but it is well made & I prefer to buy things once!

Go over the car with air only first & what's left over add water to clean off the remainder.

My 3 compressors will provide 40PSI continuously through this gun sucking up water at 0.5 litres per minute. So one can afford to use bottled water to wash the car!

A bit more compressor volume would be great which would push up the PSI a bit more with this gun, but what I have is adequate & with my small 4 litre air tank I have about 5 seconds at a higher PSI.

It is great to clean out all the cracks & corners, wipers, door hinges, roof gutters. I can blast into the boot hinges, because of the small amount of water I don't flood the car with the boot open as you would with water only. Open the car doors & blast away around the edges.

It is the combination of air & water which cleans well. If you put your hand in front of the gun there is a very very slight abrasive feel to the water up close.

I put a non return hose fitting on the bottom end of the pipe into the bucket, so when you stop the gun you don't waste air waiting for water to come back up the length of the hose. I used an 18mm hose fitting & adapted it for a 6mm internal PVC tube, 5 metres long.

The boot hings were full of dust, lots of dust around the light fittings. Up behind the under edge of rear window on this car fills up completely with dust & everytime you close the boot some more falls out. There are a few pieces of Velcro stuck around the car & it cleans them up nicely.

With preheated water it will make a good shower but with the slight abrasion be careful with cracks! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Well I have always been trying achieve that ultimate shine and finally found one that works for me.
I washed it, used a clay-bar lightly with some lubricant
Used Mequiars colour restorer
used Maquiiars Ultimate liquid wax

The key was the colour restorer used in gentle small swirl motion until the paint felt super smooth was critical. Including rubbing it off completely to really buff up a finish.
All in all about 3 days work but hey whilst bored at home and nothing else to do !

SHINING

Our Freelander SD4 has a great shine . When we bought it from Duckworths it had the Williams coating applied excellently. We have a hot pressure washer that puts a decent amount of water out so not like the crappy small things that put loads of pressure out and hardly any water so only use is for drilling holes in block paving. In the additive tank I put standard TFR from TMS. All I do is rinse with water at 70 , then turn pressure to low which pulls the TFR in and spatters it on the car gently and give the alloys a good dose then put pressure back up and wash the car for 5 to 10 mins also because the lance has a bend near the end I can wash underneath easily. Job done in 10-15mins , shining.
