Tracking systems

Anyone got one? Or is FL2 security considered good enough to deter most criminals?

There are discussions about trackers elsewhere on the forum but my view is that they are not worth having or paying the subscription for. For a start the police are very unlikely these days to bother to find your car and the other point is that if it's valuable then it will probably be put in a shipping container (faraday cage) where it won't be detected. I believe that you can buy blockers on eBay too. My sons have both had Porsche 911's worth around £70k and the dealers have advised not to bother with the already fitted tracker but to spend the activation money on gap insurance so that if it's stolen then at least you get your money back. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The sad fact is that alarm systems are only as good as the response they receive when triggered.

It is better to invest in good physical security, and a secure parking area.

I accidentally triggered my alarm (from a distance) via my key fob in a full Tesco's car park about a week ago. Nobody around batted an eyelid, or took any notice, as I approached my car and got in with the alarm still sounding. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

On my first car a Peugeot 504 I had installed a keyed mechanical one way value lock on the hydraulic line for the clutch. As soon as the clutch pedal was pressed the clutch was disengaged permanently until it was unlocked. One could break the lock but you would have hydraulic fluid everywhere.

As far as alarms going off, everyone ignores them so they are useless.

Tracking

I have three on our 3 car family vehicles.
Subscription is £35 per unit per year so I dont think that is expensive..
One car went into the dealer for warranty work and we had proof they had been out doing 112mph in it, as well as the pack of lies about the car being still worked on for another day. In reality the ignition had never been turned on.

Why would a dealer hang onto a car ? False warranty claim possibly. As for doing 112 mph that would not worry me but the lead right boot through gears on a cold engine would. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Tracking

One of their managers took it home to "bed the new clutch in " and also stopped off at the local takeaway in Lincoln !

That's why all the cars have trackers now. It's dealerships that are my worry.

Well its possibly good and bad news.

My father ran the Yorkshire Aston Martin Agency workshop for a number of years and every car (rare cars then) would get his seal of approval before being returned to a customer. Often we had a DB in the drive one night and the works van the next but I suspect your experience is about using your fuel for commuting unless of course you are known as the customer from hell.
