UK driving licence information ...

Now maybe I'm the thicko on this forum and everyone else already knows this Thumbs Up , but just in case I thought I'd share it with you ...

Some time ago the DVLA started to issue photo driving licences (OK I know the system is crap in that you need the photo card AND the paper section for the licence to be valid). The photo part of the licence is only valid for 10 years, after which time it has to be renewed which includes having an updated photo.

As a result of a situation I've recently witnessed at work it would seem that there is some confusion about the expiry dates on the photo licence. On the rear of the licence there is an array of expiry dates for the different groups of vehicle you are entitled to drive. However the important date is on the front of the licence. Take a look at item 4b, this is the expiry date of your licence, this date overrides all the dates on the rear ...

So take a quick look at the front of your licence, section 4b .... hope the answer isn't ooops .... Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

Expiry date of license
item 11 (from A to DE) and item 4b have the same date (my 70-year birthday).
On my license is nothing about the photo-renewal.
Item 13 (upper right corner on the back) is empty, and no description of what meaning the item 13 has.

Thanks for the info Avtur, just checked my licence and mine expires in July this year Shocked not that I've aged any so could probably send them the original photo again Laughing

The wife is telling me that her boss received a letter from DVLA telling him that he needed to renew his photo licence so I guess that we will all get one when the time comes. ______________________

When is a renewal not a renewal ? Holding LGV entitlement I have to have a medical and 'renew' every 5 years. I (and many others) had thought that this renewal kept us ahead of the 10 year cycle - ooops mistake - it doesn't!

At one of our work depots this week I found 2 out of the 23 drivers had renewals in the next 6 weeks (one was actually 3 weeks) neither had received a letter. There seem to be some inconsistencies with the reminder letter, hence this post. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!
