On my recently purchased SD4. Had a full service, all brakes stripped + cleaned (+ replaced where necessary) and an Alive Tuning remap

This was achieved today, after a run from the west coast of Scotland, back home to the east coast



No complaints here

But which was the average speed?
Because, in one winter, during heavy snow, the traffic was organized with police car in front and I've managed 56 mpg, because the average speed was about 35 mph.
So fuel economy, on our brick shaped cars, is very speed dependent.

I have difficulty achieving any instant mpg reading above 40mpg on level ground, whatever steady speed I do.

My normal instrument panel reading is between 33 to 35 mpg, about 31 to 33 mpg real. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I've never really looked at what MPG we get but recently on two different trips I worked it out.

On one trip of about 220 miles towing our 1500kg caravan it averaged 25-26 mpg and on a solo run of about 130 miles it returned 36-37 mpg

I'm not exactly a light footed driver and take advantage of the max speed limits so was quite happy with those figures , do you get similar  2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep

Years ago I had a Ford Galaxy company car and I regularly used to drive up the M3 (which runs roughly SW) from Dorset to Bracknell and then back in the evening, a journey of about 100 miles each way. I would travel at a fairly constant speed of around 65-70 but if there was a south westerly wind behind me then the difference in fuel consumption was phenomenal and I would regularly get a 30% variation between the morning and evening run. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
