For the past 2 months, I am getting/hearing a droning high pitched noise from the back on my vehicle. The faster I go, the faster the drone and the pitch goes higher.
Any idea's where to start looking from where it's coming from?

Could be wheel bearing or rear diff but make sure it’s not your tyres first.

I'll get my mechanic friend to take a look / listen

Some tyres make more noise as they get older so don't rule them out. Common sense isn't very common.

The orginal factory fitted tyres on mine stared to make a noise at about 25k miles. This carried on until I replaced the tyres when the tread was down to 3mm. New tyres - no noise.

As the wear they ofen do get noisier. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I had a rear noise and the dealer said that it needed a new rear wheel bearing. It was booked in for it to be done and they called me and said that it wasn't the bearing but tyre noise. New rear tyres no noise. In my time with FL2s I have had rear diff, rear bearings and rear tyre noise and they all sounded the same to me. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Well, at long last, I found out what was casuing the droning noise coming from the back was, and it's as most suggested, the tyres. I had General Grabber AT2's fitted, and they were on there for approx 3 years. My annual mileage is around 7500. The tyres still had good tread on them, and my vehicle had just passed it's MOT. Anyway, I was a bit reluctant to change the tyres, seeing that they still had good tread on them, but bit the bullet and bought two General Grabber AT3's. Problem solved immediately.

It's the sipes in the tread that make them quite. As the tread gets thinner the sipes get shallower and disappear. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

This is what the tyre fitter mentioned to me.

Just put my original 17" wheels with Good Year Wranglers back on as I will be selling my set of Evoque wheels which are fitted with Pirelli Scorpions - WHAT A DIFFERENCE

The road noise is incredible compared to the Pirellis
The ride and handling is "woolly" compared to the Pirellis

Therefore I have NO DOUBT Wranglers are NOISY to the point where you start thinking the transmission is failing No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Strangely enough when we bought our FL2 and drove it home along the motorway we found the dreaded droning and feared the rear diff or wheel bearing, after investigation I changed the tyres for a complete new set and droning gone, different car completely.......the rears were half worn Wranglers these do seem to be quite noisy with wear. Regards
