then I would go that route and walk away. unless you can change the engine yourself (If you can find a decent i6 engine that is) then you will be looking at thousands of pounds to sort it.

Thanks for the info Paul although I'd guess you should get fair warning if the thermostat is going i.e. temp fluctuations or some sort of evidence before it simply goes and blows the head gasket - cracking a block is pretty serious and I would have thought unlucky ?? that's what the gasket is supposed to prevent i.e. overpressure will blow that before cracking the block anyway.........

I agree that the system should be fault tolerant. But in the case of the Thermostat it doesn't appear to be. I recommend changing the Thermostat every 10 years
It should work fine. I would look for a Volvo of similar age (as you Land Rover) and with AWD The S80 and XC70 seem nearly identical The XC90 seems to be slightly different but the difference are likely bolt on. Good Luck Paul |
