Start control unit URGENT HELP NEEDED PLEASE

I changed the start control unit (the device you push the fob into)because of frequent failure to read the fobs and start the car.

I checked with the people that make the Lynx EVO as to whether I would need their unit to reprogram my fobs, they confirmed via their software engineers that I did not need their unit, as the codes are stored in the main engine control cpu.

Now the fobs will not stay in and I cant get ignition.

Can any one offer a solution to my problem please, I live on an island with no main dealer.

The old unit was disassembled and appeared to have a soft coating over the electronics, which I fear may have become conductive thus causing the malfunction.

As far as I know this unit does need coded with the Autologic by land rover or an independent with the OEM gear. It's not something that can be coded with the likes of a Snap On computer.
LR protecting their bank balance I fear...

Can you not refit the old one just to get the car to a main dealer? To see what the problem is?

Sounds like part of the security system in that if all you had to do was change the docking unit then it would make the car (even) easier to steal. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I think Jimmy is right, but getting it to a main dealer in Aberdeen would cost £600.
The old unit does not work ,so refitting it is not an option.
There must be a cheaper diagnostic unit that could perform this simple task.

Aye min yer a wee bit scr***d living up there. I thought I was bad with a 40 mile trip to the guy nearest to me but it really is LR only.

The garage I would normally go to has a fancy all singing all dancing Snap On unit and even it can't do anything other than delete and basic functions. I tried that after fitting a LR towbar electrics pack and that was the same - needed Autologic computer and 80 quid out of my pocket to turn on the towbar!!

Hi Jimmy
No, I cleaned the double sided circuit board in the old unit, and refitted it. The car then failed to start half a dozen times. I then thought, I would make a video of the response it gave when I tried to start it.

I have tried to attach the video but if it doesn't work the car has been fine since.
I am really puzzled.

Allan,
Best I can suggest is to plan a trip to Aberdeen / Inverness soon as you can and take your new part with you and a few tools to be able to swap them over. There is definitely some gremlin there that will likely show itself again when you least want it to.
Sorry I can't be any help to you on this one
