Power steering pipes

Evening people.
I got my FL2 knowing it had a corroded and weeping power steering pipe.
Has anyone changed the pipes them self, i have the new pipes and was wondering if its an easy job to tackle,
any tips, shortcuts or advice on the job would be appreciated.

You need to work as if you are in a operating theatre, dirt is your enemy. A new fluid tank may be sensible on older cars. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Hi. This should probably be in the "Maintenance and Mods" section, but yes I've just done this.

I'm guessing it's the lower feed pipe that's corroded. Don't touch it. I did, and a weep became a heavy leak which emptied the PAS tank in a few minutes!

For some reason the return pipe was in immaculate condition, although it seems to be made of the same stuff.

You have to buy the lower feed pipe as a set with the lower return pipe also LR029185. Also the upper feed pipe LR001099 as the connection is non removable. You'll also need a litre of oil LR003401. All 3 will set you back £130 from Duckworths (same price as ebay).

It's pretty simple with a socket and allen key set. Engine cover needs to come off too. It's messy... get a 8x4 ply sheet or a huge duvet as you'll have leaks all over the show, including from the PAS pump when you unbolt the feed from there!

All accessible from the drivers side wheel arch.

That, in a nutshell Thumbs Up

T40 bolt into the rack is usually pretty tight, and if the socket is not engaged correctly, you risk rounding the bolt

Little tricky to release the return pipe, though there is a special tool available to release the locking tabs

And as also said, it is usually a very messy job...

Rack will benefit with a flush of clean oil before being reconnected or just push out the old stuff by moving wheels sides to side. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks for the info and pointing me in the right direction.
Steam cleaned the oil off and found nice new pipes had already been fitted, who ever done the job had damaged an o ring and then threaded the T40 stud trying to stop the leak.
I managed to file enough off of a nut to get it in behind the hole and put a new bolt right through to the new nut.
Fingers crossed.

Central locking is my next challenge.
