I would not waste my money on winter tyres the FL2 is far more than capable of dealing with the UK winters on stock 19” tyres just make sure they have plenty of tread, unless you are doing serious off road that is.

Hardly a waste of money... living up a steep, off the gritted track, hill as I do, winter tyres give me some confidence in the car's ability to get me safely both down and back up the hill.

In terms of waste of money, I expect two sets of tyres uses alternately for winter and summer to last me about as long as two sets of tyres used one set after the other. The second set of alloy rims were cheap enough to not worry about and my 'best' diamond turned rims only get used in summer.

I can't see any economic reason not to have s set of winter rims and tyres.

That’s what I was originally thinking
May I ask what size are the winters?

Mine is equipped with standard 19” diamond cut and I don’t want to gouge them on snow covered stones, kerbs etc in the winter

I used a set of early Evoke 19" rims, luckily coming with TPMS which worked with my car. Size wise there were 235 55 19
Pirrelli Snow and Ice. A good set of tyres but they went off with age last year. I now have a set of Vredestein Wintracs fitted.

I was more than happy to have a second set of wheels and tyres to stop me knacking my decent wheels. Yes it was up front cost but I am only using one set of tyres at a time. Proper winter tyres have to be tried to see what they can do. Yes a Frelander is good in snow and ice, but correct boots make it better.

19" OEM wheels with Nankang Snow SV-2 - 235/55 R19 105V XL with rim protection at around £500 plus fitting.

Staying with 19" OEM FL2 wheels took away any faff with 'Modifications' - my insurance company allows winter tyres of same size as the factory fitted tyres without notification.

When I started looking for winter tyres some years ago, Land Rover recommended the Continental Wintercontact 4x4 tyre for the 18" feelander 2 wheels. Bearing in mind insurance considerations I went with these and have been using them for the past 6 years and they've performed brilliantly - both doing 4x4 response work in the recent beast from the east and over the summer during the hot weather (trying to wear them out ready for a new set this winter). They don't wear any quicker than the wranglers or scorpions that both my Freelander's came with.
