Sunroof rusted.

Wonder if anyone can offer advise. My sunroof rails and slider parts have rusted, as have parts of the tray. The whole thing has now failed and is ajar. So I apparently need a new sunroof, which is massively expensive. My question is, can I simply seal the roof somehow, I don't need to use it?

I suppose you could but it’s not ideal. I would think your drain holes are blocked with debris and it’s holding the water in hence the rust. The sunroof not operating most likely is corroded electrical connection and rusted sticking parts. I would clean out the drain holes check the electrics clean all the metal parts as good as you can and treat with something like Bilt Hamber rust protection I wouldn’t bother painting as no one sees it. Then I would check the fuse to see if it’s blown due to being overloaded by the sticking parts. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I saw that thread, but my drain isn't blocked. The parts that attach the glass to the sliders have actually rusted into pieces. I'm going to order new parts and then try and do damage control, and see if I can get it running again.

Yes, they just dissolved. I do live right on the seafront in a very corrosive environment though.

Hmmm that interesting with me being coastal anything about which could help stop salt air getting on it? If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.
