Great news Pedro Thumbs Up had mine on for about 8 months now and certainly impressed with wet weather performance,
all I need now is the snow to give them a full workout.

Blatted back down the M5 to A30 in the recent touch of snow and much rain, standing water etc - temps around zero part of the way until we got to the balmy clime of Cornwall again. The Noks are absolutely the business in such conditions.

Well these are my second set, new on in beginning of November. Just out of interest tried a full on uphill launch on packed snow, or at least as much of a full on launch as you can do, not even a hint of losing grip. Over the last few days, assuming not deliberately trying to mess about, the only time any slide or trigger of abs has been on the most slippery surface you can get, namely smooth ice with a thin covering of water. Even then all easily kept under control.

Yes exactly - since my post above I was stuck in traffic at Birdlip and decided to cut down a tiny lane that I know to avoid the traffic. The lane was 2 to 3 inches of solid ice with the external temp at plus 2 so a thin film of water on top. Uphill was fine and used HDC downhill to be safe. Had one small sideways slip in some icy ruts but made in through no problem. Passed an abandoned Subaru Laughing FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

Unfortunately, my initial enthusiasm and ongoing praise for these tyres has now waned somewhat as the tyres have developed severe cracking / perishing over the past 9 or so months. This is apparently a known problem with these (Made in Russia) tyres and has been reported by others on this forum and you tube.

My tyres are about 2.5 years old (Since date of manufacturer) and still have around 5.5 mm of tread left.

I contacted Nokian who told me that the tyres are guaranteed for 5 years and that I should put a claim in via the retailer. I contacted Oponeo who told me that they only process claims for 2 years and that I should speak to the manufacturer ! I have emailed both companies and asked them to sort out this issue but they are both entrenched in their opposing positions and have stopped answering my emails. The worrying thing is that at no point have either Oponeo or Nokian tried to reassure me or told me that the tyres are still safe to use, although Oponeo did tell me that it was a known issue.

So even though the tyres are only a third worn, I am now on the lookout for new tyres - Needless to say, I won't be using an online supplier or buying Nokians ever again. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

Don't muck about.

Go online and file a small claims action against the seller and "join" the action against the manufacturer. Initial cost about £60. They will both receive notice from the various County Courts and they will HAVE to answer the charges. If they don't answer...you win. Alternatively they will have to respond with a reasonable defence; either way you are pretty secure within a six year period if the goods are not "merchantable quality".

I did the same thing against PC World on a £20 item which was only 18 months old and had no moving parts. The defence was similiar; only guaranteed for 12 months, contact the manufacturer. No thanks. I paid and claimed £230 for my time, court time, replacement cost, legal on-line fees etc. AND WON THE LOT.

These are my only experience of Nokians.

Someone else on here had it too with these tyres and someone has posted a video on YouTube showing the same defect. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

I am pleased to say that Nokian contacted me and finally resolved this problem for me under their warranty.

So, all resolved in the end and, performance wise, a great tyre.

I 'll certainly be keeping an eye on the new set though ! FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

I bought some Nokians earlier this year before I came across this thread- they are still in the garage waiting to be put on.
I must admit I had assumed they were made in Finland and I dont think Id have bought them if Id realised they were made in Russia, although I would have had no reason to doubt the quality of the tyre its just buying from Russia makes me feel a little uncomfortable.

I hope they wont start cracking like those on Pedro's car. Jules
