Incidentally Halal meat is now being used "stealthily" in UK with most consumers being unaware. My niece was recently informed that her daughter's school was using Halal meat in school dinners despite only a handful of pupils being Muslim. Also it's an open secret that certain KFC and McDonalds in the Birmingham area are Halal, as my Muslim work colleagues eat there, even though it's not on display that the meat is Halal. Supermarkets are also guilty. They have dedicated shelves for Halal products but also have Halal products in the freezers. Always check the labels on frozen meat products, especially anything that contains chicken or lamb.
The traditional high street butcher seems to have become extinct, however Halal butchers are springing up all over the place. The sad fact is there are a lot of people who couldn't care less where their meat comes from or how it's slaughtered.
