What's the consensus as to how often this should be done? 150,000 miles sounds like a lot! Surely there must be some time limit too? Potentially it could take 15-20 years to cover that mileage, which is a long time for a glorified rubber belt to last!

You would think it would be based on 150000 miles or say 10 years based on 15000 a year average these days? |

Is it a chain or a belt? I know BMW's have chains an alonger interval between changes. I wouldnt be happer with a belt for 150K. Still, I suppose there is nothing stopping someone from changing the belt early. I say a kit for 70 quid, I wonder if its a big job? I had an Audi A4, that was due a cambelt change, it required taking the bumper off and radiator out just to get to the belt. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

It is a belt... I had mine done at 82k while having some other work done but irrespective I would not go all the way to the 150k before changing, it is not worth the pain if it does fail.

There is a lad I work with. He total abused his old Renault by not servicing it untill something went wrong. Then his timing belt snapped. As it happened he knew a fella who knew an out off work mechanic. The mechanic found him an engine for 200 quid and fitted it over two days in our car park at work. I remember lifting the engine out with the forklift. He ran the car for another 3 years until it finally gave up the ghost and was scrapped. Some people are totally clueless about the servicing aspects of cars! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Hi, this belt is a recent generation and should be fine as per guidelines. We don't live in a particularly hot, humid, or cold, freezing climate, so high engine temps and cold cranks are not that much of an issue. There's a lot goes into manufacturing these and they are on par with chains easily, they don't stretch as much for a start. Obviously there are safety factors built into them as well, so provided it's well looked after any failure will probably be mechanical, tensioner, water pump etc. rather than the belt itself. It's a version of the PSA DW12 engine. |

Just looking at the Land Rover TOPIx online service schedule for my 2014 Freelander 2 2.2TD4 and it appears the the interval to renew camshaft drive belt, tensioner and idler pulley is now 112000 miles or 84 months whichever comes first. |

Only if you believe that you have fairies at the bottom of your garden too. Warranty is to 100k. Even an extended warranty won't get you much past that. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto 5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE |

I had the cam belt on my td4 changed along with water pump and ancillary belt changed at 10 years. Should have had the tensioner and alternator changed at the same time as an alternator bearing failed leading to an engine speed whine not long after. The indie i was using changed the tensioner first, then the alternator. It would have saved the second strip down if it had been done along with the planned cam belt change. Ah well, it’s only money!! |
