United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 Sport Manual Santorini Black
Torque Steer

Anybody else get this? Put your foot down and the car pulls to the left. Release the throttle and it pulls to the right?

When neither of those things are happening such as in the cruise, the car drives straight without issue.
Any ideas of where to start fault finding? Its had wishbones, rod ends, wheel bearings & droplinks over the course of the last 18 months.
Its a 2010 2.2 Sport by the way.

This is normal with a powerful 2wd car. So I wonder if it's the 4wd system not cutting in to correct this when it should?
Also, have you done a four wheel alignment check? Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

The fact that is goes in opposite ways depending on whether its accelerating or decelerating tends to point to alignment or suspension movement issues. Especially as you've had a lot of suspension work done.
Torque steer per se is not normally a feature of a Freelander - with its low power to weight ratio, despite it having a transverse engine and unequal length front drive shafts. Jules

I tend to agree with pastmaster. Your car is acting like a front-wheel only drive car. Your Haldex should be preloaded to give you 4 wheel drive from start to at least 20mph.
The FL2 has lots of torque to get on the ground, and so the steering pulls if only 2 wheel drive selected.

I don't think it will be a suspension or driveshaft problem, does your car brake in a straight line? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

They did a 2WD Freelander (for some reason) - did that suffer from torque steer I wonder ? Jules

I was basing me comment on leftofcentres description.

On rereading his first message, I see that a lot of work has been done on his suspension recently, so a good check underneath must be the most important step. Something may be coming undone or broken.

Could be Urgent. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

Ian - that was my thinking too.

However Ive had no such trouble with any of our Fl2s.

My suggestion comes from my BMW 3 series (300BHP, 620Nm) experience, which would steer from one lane to another (if hands off steering wheel) simply by pressing the accelerator or taking ones foot off.
All corrected by subtle adjustments to rear (RWD) suspension by a firm of experts.

I have experienced something very similar, when putting foot down cornering car has felt very unstable. Also recently changed front wheel bearings, wishbones and track rod ends on front of vehicle before this car drove very confidently.
I have just had 4 wheel alignment carried out and car is back to normal. Thumbs Up
