There's a couple of pics of my 17" tyres with chains on that show the clearance on this thread...

Ooo, interesting that a 'stop' will change how the TR assists on the slope.

Chains grabbed from Shamus (many thanks!) have been duly thrown on, and there seems to be just enough room.

Measured the gap at 21mm from tyre to strut, so all looks good Smile

awesome, is that with standard 16mm chains? Or did you get some slimline ones to fit?

Thanks for this info mate, been trawling all over to find someone on a forum getting chains with the same sized tyres as me.

Out of curiosity how's the clearance with them on? I've had a look at the manual which says chains are a no go for 17" wheels but there seems to be pretty decent clearance behind the tyres. The Konig site indicates 12mm chains are the go, but 16mm ones are much cheaper to find and buy so if they fit alright I would probably grab them for myself this coming winter here. (not that we get any snow in cities Laughing , just for heading up to ski slopes)

Strewth mate, I hope you don't get any snow in Melbourne. I'l be there in a couple of weeks on holiday!

I never drove with the chains on, but did a trial fit and there was just enough room to get the end of my finger between them and the strut.[/quote]

You must be the second person to practice putting chains on! I had to use them a couple of times decades ago.

If you have the time it's not far to get up to the mountains from Melbourne. Mount Buffalo is not for skiing but it is close & worth the drive up. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Only got a couple of days in Melbourne, then a couple of days in Sydney before we fly home. The main part of the holiday is Easter on the Gold Coast (where we lived for 10 years) and a week sailing around the Whitsundays Very Happy

Posting incase anyone might be looking for this info in the future Smile

Ended up grabbing a 2nd hand pair of Thule XG-12 (Size 247) chains i found on eBay. Only had to use them once so far this season for a few mins but worked well. Fits the 235/65/r17 tires well.
