Instant ban towing or not is the only way to get anywhere near stopping it IMO. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Just touching the phone while in the drivers seat can get you prosecuted. Common sense isn't very common.

On long journeys I usually see how much money I could potentially make if I was to collect the fines, and it surprising, on most journeys I could give up my job and make a healthy living.

Which just shows the stupidity of our law makers . I have my iPhone in a cradle . It is blue tooth connected to the touch screen in my Scooby . I can use the touch screen whilst I’m driving to control a number of functions including music , phone , navigation . However I touch my iPhone in the cradle to initiate Spotify and it’s an offfence . I press a button on the car steering wheel to activate voice control , and ask the car to dial a number , it’s legal . I touch a button on the iPhone and ask Siri to do something it’s illegal .. go figure , I can’t 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership 2016 Subaru Outback SE 2.0 diesel SE Premium Lineartronic Sold 2024 after 8 years and 80k miles . I think you're wrong there. If it's in a cradle then it's not a hand held device any more. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

By definition a phone is a hand held device, cradle or not, in theory a SatNav should not be used by the driver when the car is in motion, it may not be specified that operating it by the driver is an offence but beware a wiggle on the steering whilst operating it in full view of the police will get you a ticket for Due Care and Attention. In theory a steering wheel controlled device should not require you to remove your eyes from the road anymore than checking your speed with a quick glance at the instrument binnacle. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

On the subject of touching things when driving oh er Mrs. Forme the new volvos are nightmare to turn temp or fan speed up or down without taking your eyes off the road for a good few seconds .. this fad that every function has to be a touch screen is mental. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !! |

You're wrong. When a phone is in a cradle it falls into the same category as a satnav. Indeed a lot of people use it as such. The essence of the law is to prohibit the use of devices being held in the hand whilst driving. Here is the law https://www.gov.uk/using-mobile-phones-when-driving-the-law Bullet points 3 & 4. Could be different in Cypress but I doubt it. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

Back in the old days when I was working I used the phone a lot and often found that when the call was over, and especially on a motorway, I had to work out where I was as I had been driving on autopilot. In addition I often found that my recall of what I had been discussing was a bit hazy. Basically your brain can't fully cope with the two activities. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
