I have some waxoyl on order so have this afternoon dropped out the rear wheel arch liners and lower side trims covering the sills.

Seriously full of soil and road grot that once wet again come winter will sit and munch into the arches and sills. Blasted it clean ready for treating and I will now have to get the front wheel arch liners off over next few days. There are connectors going to the rear lights etc and those also sitting in the grot.

We live in Cornwall and have a lot of salt in the atmosphere plus very high humidity, we have had premature underbody corrosion on previous vehicles and not had great success with waxoil.

I think waxoil is good if applied to clean un-rusted surfaces but in areas where there is slight surface rust already I doesn't work so well.

What has worked well for us in the past is ACF 50. We have had our 2013 FL about 3 weeks now and one of the first jobs was to drop the wheel arch liners and sill covers, get it up on ramps and stands, a good blast underneath with the power washer, let it dry overnight and apply ACF 50 to the underbody. I apply it with an old spray gun with the air pressure wound up to 80psi so it gets right into the seams and joints.

I buy it by the quart (imperial as its made somewhere in Canada) and a quart will do the underside. You can also buy it in aerosol form but as you are working on the underside you waste more than what goes on and its no so cheap, but with good air pressure and a spray gun makes life easy and less waste. It will drip off for the first day or so, so don't park it on your newly paved drive or you will get a good kicking from the missus.

I use it on my bike and its good stuff. Wasn't sure how long the film would last underneath a car though
