I would want to be sure that it is not simply the output shaft seal(s)! These are known to go, and one of mine is leaking slightly and soon to be replaced, but I am certainly not planning on replacing the whole diff at this stage! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Leaks are caused by seal failures and if it was serous it would show on the ground. You would change a seal not a whole unit.

If the diff has to be changed, get it done by Bell Engineering, Austen will also asvise you over the 'phone if you need any advice. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

You could try Infield 4x4 over at Newbold Coleorton which is not far from you.

Seconded... my supposedly knackered diff bearing became a knackered n/s rear wheel bearing when Austen drove the car... saved me quite a bit in repair costs as, had I have had the diff done (needlessly as it turned out) I'd have still needed the wheel bearing doing. Sadly, Austen doesn't do wheel bearings. If I ever need a diff replaced, my car will go to Bell Engineering without hesitation. |

Well had it done at Bell, he said yep it was leaking and needed doing. He also said it looks like it's already been replaced once before.
